GUIDE FOR APPLICATION OF STANDARDS FOR SMART METERING SYSTEMS IN AFRICA

GUIDE D’APPLICATION DES NORMES POUR LES SYSTÈMES DE COMPTAGE INTELLIGENT EN AFRIQUE

The African Electrotechnical Standardization Commission (AFSEC) was established inter alia to promote the application of common standards on the entire continent in order to improve access to electricity and hence the wellbeing of African populations in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) and Agenda 2063. AFSEC, through the development and harmonization of standards and promotion of appropriate conforming assessment systems will contribute to the implementation of the African Continental FreeTrade Area (AfCFTA).

Recognising the need for appropriate standards for the new generation of electricity metering systems (“smart metering”) being deployed in Africa, AFSEC TC 13, which mirrors the work of IEC TC 13, has developed this guide, taking account of the publications of recognised standards bodies, notably the IEC and other specifications developed by stakeholders in Africa.

The first edition was published in 2018.
